Atc scm25a11/9/2023 I'd always advise to go with the active ATC if possible - they have very serious amp packs, class AB, fully serviceable. The tweeter on 19v2 and 40v2 is the same new ATC tweeter (it's not the SL version of it on neither of these two speakers, for that you'll need to go for the pro line). They have a monster SL midbass driver (this driver itself weighs about 9 kilograms or about 19,8 pounds), so this means they can go very loud without distortion (which is something all ATCs are known for). With a good amp, they'd fill 25m2 no problem. With that in mind, my 19s in my 17 square metres room barely have enough room to breathe properly. This is why I really respect them - they don't sell crap at entry level, like so many manufacturers do. This is something that Billy Woodman says as well and states that this is his goal. That's the general consensus altogether with ATC, that with all their speakers you get their signature sound and going bigger means deeper bass, bigger sound and more of the same. Meanwhile, here's our host's thoughts on the active 150s:ĪTC: I've found the mixing speaker of my dreams.Ĭlick to expand.I did not listen to the 40s (I have 19v2), but the dealer here, just as a few other ATC owners here say that their general sound is very similar, only the 40s go deeper and bigger. You have years of blissful listening ahead of you! The active version of the SCM40 is reviewed here: Ĭongratulations on your acquisition. The SCM40 has all the characteristics of the bigger models, just with a smaller operating envelope. I also got to listen to DSD files which I am very familiar with. When no one was around we got to do an A-B between the Studer tape machine direct and via Andreas' ADC-DAC path (quad DSD) and I couldn't hear a difference sighted, never mind blind. Impressions: My Audio Oasis! Awards for AXPONA 2017 (you will need to scroll down a bit, or search for ATC) A few years ago at AXPONA, my good friend Andreas Koch (Playback Designs) was demo'ing with the passive SCM40s: I have known Billy Woodman and the gang at ATC for 20 years and have used a number of their active models: 25, 50, 150 and 300, with most of my time spent with the 150s.
